Understanding the Causes of PCOS/ PCOD & Its Effective Treatment for Life

According to Ayurved, the main reason behind this problem is imbalance in Vat and Kaph Dosh in the body due to various diet & lifestyle changes. Let’s elaborate the main causes of Vat and Kaph imbalance.

  1. Eating Too Much Heavy Food Items – Continuously eating food that is heavy on digestion or that takes more time to be digested increases Kaph dosh in the body which in turn blocks the various pathways in the body. Food like Milk and milk products, Curd, Paneer, Cheese, Kidney Beans, Chickpeas, Black gram etc.
  2. Eating Packed Food – Packed food items have preservatives in it which acts as slow poison in our body. These chemicals when taken continuously for a long time affects the proper functioning of the body hindering the normal pathways of Biochemical reactions of our body. This in turn leads to hormonal imbalance.
  3. Sedentary Lifestyle – When a person keeps on sitting for a long time, it increases the kaph dosh in the body. Kaph dosh is stagnant in nature and hence blocks the channels of the body. Hence a person suffering from PCOD, Obesity should always remain active throughout the day and should do at least 30-40 minutes of exercise daily.
  4. Stress/ Anxiety – Nowadays people have a tendency of overthinking and getting aggressive on petty issues. This has become common for both kids and adults leading to many health issues. Ayurved takes a holistic approach in treating PCOD that aims at balancing three dosh in the body, cleaning the body of toxins, improving digestion, managing weight and creating overall well-being in the body. Following are the recommended diet & lifestyle modification needed along with medicinal and Panchkarm (Detoxification) treatments:

  1. Take easily digestible food at proper timings, mostly between 8am to 8pm. Lentils like Green gram, red lentils have very good effect in balancing dosh when taken in proper quantity.
  2. Avoid eating any type of packed food and ready to cook meals available in the market to avoid preservatives toxicity. Prepare fresh food with the natural ingredients.
  3. Prefer to sleep on time between 10pm to 10:30 pm and waking up anytime between 5am -6am. Or one can prepone there waking time by 15-30 minutes weekly to reach between 5-6am.
  4. Start doing moderate exercise. Best is to start with a simple walk either at home or outside. Also add Butterfly Yogasan pose, Sun salutation, Wind releasing pose etc.
  5. Avoid sleeping during the daytime if you are suffering from PCOD/ Obesity.
  6. Avoid excessive travelling and sudden weight loss. If a female is having excessive travelling then she should balance it with regular oil body massage, putting oil in nostrils and ears, doing Oil pulling to balance Vat dosh.
  7. One should follow meditation or sitting in silence to calm down mind.
